This project was very immersive in allowing us to find a solution for climate change that we were most interested in. I got paired up with two other people who were interested in a similar topic. Our project was on forest protect, but specifically replanting native plants. We want to plant on coastal regions, and then more inland. We started off partnering off with Coral Reef Alliance, and they helped us come up with our ideas, and more information. We also reached out to Joe Imoff who's part of the Skyline Conservation in planting Koa trees in place of invasive eucalyptus trees and any other non-native plants. Planting native trees/where you plant them affects more than one ecosystem such as the ocean ecosystem. Through holding in the soil, run off won't get into the ocean causing coral reefs to suffer. Everything is connected!
Why I chose this project
I chose this project because it was a massive project that actually impacted the community. I am very proud of how it turned out. My group was amazing and which allowed us to come up with quality work.
21st Century skills I used
The 21st century skills that I used were Global Awareness skills because I really got educated on how my impacts affect the whole Earth, and what I could do to make a difference.
Demonstration of Growth
This demonstrates my growth by expanding my knowledge on climate change. This helps me further understand world issues and how vital it is that we solve them. The project needed to be finished rather quickly and needed to be reformatted multiple times, so this project showcases my time management skills, communication skills, and my ability to quickly adapt to a changing situations.
How I could Improve
If I could do this project again, I would have loved to have a better structured plan. This would have allowed my group to spend more time perfecting our research.
