This was a group project to create a dance that resembled quadratic math problems. We had to use at least 4 of the different equations to make our dance; we choose absolute value, linear, exponential, and cubic equations. My partner Tas and I created a ballet to creatively symbolize each equation.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
The 21st century skills I feel this assignment addresses were interpersonal skills because this project required a lot of patience. I come from a dance background and it was challenging to teach other moves that flowed with the music and matched the equations. Which challenged me to work with a more positive mindset with my teammate.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and what was most difficult about completing this task?
I am most proud of our creativity! It was super cool watching math problems that we made come to life in movement. The most difficult part was filming and memorizing the choreography. My partner and I had to reverse the whole dance to make it longer which was very confusing at first.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I improved upon my 21st century skill with this assignment by overcoming internal negativity while trying to plan and film our dance. It's hard to watch yourself multiple times without judgement, and I think this project definitely challenged me to respect and accept that I was trying my hardest.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could improve this work I would probably find a more funky and fun way of doing this dance. I love ballet but I was inspired by my classmates and how they did theirs with such fun vibes. I would want to find a more creative way to film the project.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past and how can you apply this to future learning?
This relates to what I have learned in the past by being flexible to change. From past experiences I wasn't easily okay with things not going my way, and this project showed me that it's okay to mess up and try again. I want to apply this way of thinking to everything I do in the future because that's how you grow as an individual.
