The Waipu’ilani lab was a lab that we completed out in the field to further understand population density. We went to the Waipu’ilani park and learned how to take quadrant samples, with data, and transect data (distance data)
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
The 21st century skills that I felt I used during this lab were thinking and problem solving skills because this lab had us identify different types of plants (native and non-native), and find the percentage of the total plant organisms. Identifying and finding the percent was a challenge at first but eventually with some time and practice it became way easier
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and what was most difficult about completing this task?
I am most proud of how well my group and I were able to identify the different plants and the correct native plants. The most difficult thing about completing this lab was counting the different plants because it was hard to clearly tell which ones were connected at the same root or different roots.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
This developed my thinking and problem solving skills because this project put me in a hands-on situation where I got to see how my identifying skills came into use through taking actual reliable data and being aware of my surroundings to make sure I didn’t harm any native plants
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could do this project again I would have liked to choose more densely populated areas to take my data. This would allow my data to be more diverse
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past and how can you apply this to future learning?
This relates to what I've learned in the past through furthering my data collection skills. I can apply this in the future by understanding that we need to take care of our lands through small actions, and self education
